Among the things EVERY writer needs to understand is the proper format for his or her story. By understanding the essential demands of books versus scripts, writers can better position their work for the market and have a stronger grasp on how to get it out there.
- What works in a book doesn't always work in a script and vice versa -

YOU WILL LEARN:
  • Commonalities between books and scripts
  • Fundamental differences between books and scripts
  • How to use structure and plot points for each format of writing
  • How dialogue and description differ in each
  • The THREE ACT STRUCTURE -- does it apply to books as well?
  • SPECIFIC storytelling conventions  often used in novels that may not belong in your script
  • Effective strategies for working on a script and book concurrently -- a method to the madness
  • PLUS Q&A

BY THE END OF THE CLASS YOU WILL KNOW:

  • Steps for identifying your proper format
  • How to structure your story for the proper format
  • How you can write your story in more than one format
  • What to avoid when trying to market your book or script
  • How you can improve your narrative in books or scripts

PLEASE BRING WITH YOU:

  • Something to take extensive notes (hand-outs will also be given)
